Dry Eye Treatment: InMode Envision Lumecca-I IPL and Forma-I
Hughes Eye Group now offers in office dry eye treatment with the Envision platform by InMode. This advanced device combines the power of two remarkable technologies, Lumecca-I Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Forma-I Radiofrequency (RF), to offer a safe, effective, and long lasting solution for dry eye relief.
Understanding the Cause of Dry Eye
Dry eye syndrome can be a daily struggle, often causing irritation, burning, excessive tearing, fluctuating vision, and redness. Most cases of dry eye disease are linked to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), where the glands along the eyelids fail to produce enough quality oil to keep tears from evaporating too quickly. Traditional treatments such as artificial tears and warm compresses may provide temporary relief, but they often do not address the underlying cause of dry eye disease.

How Envision Lumecca-I and Forma-I Work
Lumecca-I uses intense pulsed light therapy to target inflammation and abnormal blood vessels that contribute to MGD. Gentle light pulses are applied around the eyes to reduce inflammation and stimulate the meibomian glands, improving their function. IPL has been shown to break up gland blockages, enhance oil production, and restore the natural balance of the tear film. It can also help eradicate demodex mites, reduce bacteria, and treat oculofacial rosacea, all of which may contribute to dry eye symptoms.
Forma-I uses radiofrequency therapy to deliver gentle heat and energy that stimulates collagen production and improves circulation around the eyes. This treatment helps soften thickened oils within the meibomian glands, allowing them to release the oils needed to prevent tear evaporation. In addition to improving eye comfort, RF therapy may also provide cosmetic benefits by tightening and smoothing the skin around the eyes.
Benefits of Lumecca-I IPL and Forma-I RF for Dry Eye
- Long-Term Relief: Unlike artificial tears that provide temporary moisture, IPL and RF therapy work to restore proper meibomian gland function for longer-lasting improvement.
- Reduction in Inflammation: Both IPL and RF treatments target the inflammation that contributes to chronic dry eye symptoms.
- Enhanced Comfort and Vision: Patients often notice significant relief from discomfort along with improved overall eye health and more stable vision.
- Non-Invasive and Safe: Treatments are quick, comfortable, and performed in-office with little to no downtime.
Is Envision Treatment Right for You?
If you suffer from persistent dry eyes that have not responded to over-the-counter treatments, or if you are frustrated with the constant routine of drops, compresses, and at-home therapies, Envision IPL and RF treatments may be the solution. The ideal treatment, Lumecca-I, Forma-I, or a combination of both, depends on the severity of your symptoms, the underlying cause of your dry eye disease, and your skin type.
The doctors at Hughes Eye Group work closely with each patient to create a customized dry eye treatment plan tailored to their needs. A typical treatment package includes 3–4 sessions spaced approximately 2–4 weeks apart for optimal results.

What Is a Treatment Session Like?
Despite the name, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment with Lumecca-I and radiofrequency treatment with Forma-I are generally very comfortable, with most patients experiencing only a mild warming or tingling sensation. For patients with more sensitive skin, a local numbing cream may be applied to enhance comfort.
Each visit includes one-on-one time with your doctor to discuss symptoms and progress, while the treatment itself usually takes about 30 minutes. After treatment, most patients can return to normal daily activities immediately. Mild redness or swelling may occur temporarily, and some patients may choose to allow a few hours for this to resolve before returning to work or social activities. Makeup can typically be applied after treatment.
How Soon Can You Expect Results?
Many patients begin noticing improvement in dry eye symptoms after their first treatment, although the initial session primarily prepares the glands for deeper, long-term improvement. After 1–2 sessions, patients often experience reduced dryness, irritation, and dependence on artificial tears.
Following the complete treatment series, many patients report significant improvement in eye comfort, reduced redness, and fewer dry eye symptoms overall. Depending on the severity and underlying cause of the condition, some patients choose to have maintenance treatments approximately once a year to help maintain their results over time.
